Reasons why we love Denarau and what this Island has to offer!
We love slow travel so decided to book a month at Club Wyndham Denarau in December 2022. Denarau Island is a small private resort haven located on the western side of Viti Levu, Fiji. We are fortunate that Fiji is a short four-hour direct flight from New Zealand which makes this a perfect island getaway for us.
As soon as you disembark you feel the warmth of the sunshine and see the smiling faces of the Fijiian people, and everywhere you turn you are greeted with a big “BULA”, which means hello.
Once you arrive you can jump into a taxi and reach Denarau within 20 minutes. Denarau is made up of several well-known hotel chains and the popular timeshare resort Club Wyndham. We purchased our timeshare over a decade ago and regularly travel to Denarau to enjoy the luxury and amenities of any top resort but with the home away from home feel of an apartment with cooking facilities.
One of the main reasons why we love Denarau so much is that it has everything you need on your doorstep including the gateway to the Mamanuca Islands and the Yasawa Islands. From Port Denarau Marina you can hop onto day cruises, take a ferry to an island resort, enjoy a sunset dinner and the list goes on. There are so many tour options available like swimming with sharks, diving or snorkelling, partying on a floating pontoon or even sky diving. We have done quite a few tours so will write a few blogs highlighting some of our favourites.
The Port is also a great place to eat. There are several restaurants, a bakery (with the best chicken & potato pies), and even a locally made ice cream shop. This is also where you will find the grocery store, pharmacy, beauty and massage shops, ATM’s and other shopping options. Denarau also has a Water Park and International Golf Course.
From our hotel you can walk along the oceanfront and explore what each hotel has to offer. We love wandering down the beachfront, especially bar hopping (timing our visits with the various happy hours on offer around the island). Each beachside resort offers several dining options, and a variety of bars and cafés - so you are spoilt for choice on Denarau!
